Inti Punku Trek
Overview
Almost everyone knows the Inti Punku at Machu Picchu. This is a different one: an Inca sun gate above Ollantaytambo, at 3,900 m, framing the Verónica glacier like a painting.
The hike is demanding, mostly because of the altitude: three to four hours of steady climbing, with the valley opening up as you gain height.
There is almost never anyone up there. It is one of those places tourism has not found yet, despite being in plain sight of the road to Machu Picchu.
We leave Cusco very early, carry a box lunch for midday, and the experience ends in Ollantaytambo.
