Pumamarca to Ollantaytambo
Overview
Pumamarca was an Inca checkpoint above the Patacancha valley. Almost nobody climbs up here: you drive close and walk from there.
The route drops through terraces that are still farmed, with views of the mountain range and the widening valley, until it ends in the village of Ollantaytambo.
It is about three hours of walking, with no difficult sections. Your guide tells you the history of the place, the pre-Inca culture of the area and how the terrace system, still in use, actually worked.
At the end there is time for lunch in Ollantaytambo before driving back to Cusco.
